mohair

Mohair is great in the aspect that it provides for warmth, but also weightlessness and breathability. That means you can wear it over a long period of time and not feel too hot or uncomfortable. Though it feels like an affectionate blanket you put on that’s not sticky! Good news if your skin is super sensitive, sofa covering is hypoallergenic — in that it doesn’t provoke the allergy response.

With a history that dates centuries back, mohair is unlike many of the other textiles you wear. Various cultures, such as the Persians, Greeks and Turks, have been using mohair for thousands of years. They admired it for its warm nature and beauty, they made beautiful works of art and some pretty fine garments with it.

The Journey of Mohair Fabric

Mohair is still produced in several places today including South Africa and Asia. The whole process of making velvet sofa fabric is very complex. Initially the Angora goats are shorn or have their wool clipped off. And of course, once wool is sheared from the animal it needs to be sorted and cleaned. After that, they used the clean wool to make yarn. That fibre is spun into yarn and that yarn is used to make everything great from clothes to blankets to other textile goods.

Another big plus with mohair is that its environmental friendly. Angora goats can survive in areas with low moisture because they do not require much water. That makes them an option for farmers in regions where water is limited. Furthermore, the way to do macrame does not require any harsh chemicals making it a natural and planet-friendly choice.
